Second anniversary of Dionn Owen and The Renaissance SPKC1AL TO THE CHRONICLE Just over two years ago a group of energetic people with a love of gospel music set out to make a change in the city of Winston-Salem. This change was to prove the fact that togeth erness does exist and regardless of what denomination you belong to, we still serve the same God! From this idea the name "Renaissance." meaning a rebirthing. was attached to this group of people. Under the direction of Dionn Owen, The Renaissance has become known for its anointed singing up and down the East Coast. The cjioir has had the privilege of sharing the stage with other gospel artists such as Troy Sneed. The Wilmington Chester Mass Choir. Yolanda Adams, Bishop Dreyfus Smith and Trinity 5:7. One of the most memorable occasions for the choir was being asked to be the featured choir for the seasonal dinner cruises for The Spirit of Norfolk cruise ship in Norfolk \Va' The Renaissance has also recorded its first CD. titled "A Change," along with a live video to give its listeners a visual expe rience of the choir. Special guests for the second anniversary of Dionn Owen and The Renaissance will be Patrick Lundy & The Ministers of Music from Washington, D.C. This group consists of some of the most outstanding vocalists and musicians in the Washington Metropolitan area, many of whom are choir mem bers. choir directors or ministers of music in their home churches and/or ordained ministers of the gospel. With the release of their third project they have made their way to the forefront of gospel music artists. Their first single, "Won't He Make a Way," is already in heavy rotatidfl on every gospel music radio station. Throughout its existence, the choir has been blessed to have opportunities to share in the min istries of such nationally renowned recording artists as Delorcs Barrett Campbell and the Barrett Sisters. Rev. Milton Biggham. Dorinda Clark Cole. Kirk Franklin and the Family, Jennifer Holliday. Donald Lawrence, Rev. John P. Kee & New Life Community Singers. Evang Betty Griffin Keller. Donald Malloy, Dorothy Nor wood. LaShun Pace, Albertina Walker, Rev. Wintley Phipps. Vicki Winans and the late Rev. Donald Vails, and special appearances on Black Entertain ment Television's "Bobby Jones Gospel." The choir has also completed successful tours in Wilmington.
